What areas does Handyman Reality provide services?
Handyman Reality povides handyman repair and kitchen appliance installation services to the greater Edmonton area including Central or South Edmonton, Beaumont, Leduc and Sherwood Park.
What does the "O/A" in the company name stand for?
The "O/A" stands for "Operating As".
Being a small operator of a "one man" handyman business I have found that I do not bring in sufficient revenue to afford the many options and reponsibilities of incorporating my business so I do what I can and I operate my handyman general contracting business as a sole proprietor under the trade name, "Handyman Reality", and with a business insurance umbrella package. ![]()
What rate do you charge out at?
My rate for regular plumbing type jobs and general handyman jobs is $45.00 per hour for myself, tools, and truck. I do require 1/2 hour driving time to any call that is less than 4 hours.
Drain cleaning is a special circumstance where the tools need to be cleaned and disinfected after each use, so, for drain cleaning my rate is $60.00 per hour.
Are you a licensed or journeyman plumber, electrician, carpenter?
Nope, I did go through the first few years of a plumbing apprenticeship though never completed to the journeyman or red seal certificates. When it comes to electrical repairs or installations I plan by and pay attention to the "Electrical Code Simplified" book that is available at most building products suppliers.
I do have insurance as a "Building Renovations Contractor" though.
Do you provide full renovation services, detailed quotes, product supply etc.
I am a handyman so I feel I am a repair person not a renovator or construction company.
I am paid labour with tools, transportation, and insurance.
I do not supply major fixtures so if you are looking to replace your toilet, bathtub, dishwasher etc. you will need to choose your own product and make arrangements for the payment. I will often assist with the pickup or delivery when it is possible to fit the items into my truck.
I understand that folks will not nessesarily know all of the required parts and materials required to install their new fixture or appliance, so, I do supply the little bits and pieces that are needed to do my part of the installation of fixtures, appliances and repairs.
Renovation quotes are managed by Norm's Handyman Service and that is "time permitting" of course. I often work with Norm to complete basement developments, bathroom and kitchen renovations. You can reach Norm's Handyman Service at +1-780-487-5310 or at their website www.normshandyman.ca

What about BBB? Are you registered with the Better Business Bureau?
I Was, and, Am No More!
Though there is a page on BBB for Handyman Reality.
When I originally started to operate as a sole propfrietor under the trade name "Handyman Reality" I did register with the better business bureau and was awarded an A+ rating.
My next year in business I decided that I no longer wanted all the junk mail and telephone solicitations that I suspect came with my BBB listing, so, I informed the BBB that I was dropping them.
Soon after the BBB stopped getting money from me I had my A+ rating changed to a B+ and the reasoning given is "Length of time business has been operating." Funny, when I paid up, I was awarded an A+ rating? I am a little disappointed that the actual reasoning for the rating reduction was not given. It almost seems dishonest in itself.
